Description: Mia Capodilupo transforms the space into a boreal urban landscape using metals, fabric, found and cast objects, construction materials, wax and feathers in shades of white. Combining the familiar and the fantasy and natural and synthetic materials, the installation transports the viewer to another world.
Bio: Mia Capodilupo is a sculpture and installation artist originally from Boston, MA. She received a BA in Anthropology from University of Chicago, studied sculpture at Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has participated in solo and group shows and residencies in museums, galleries and alternative spaces around the country. She was a featured artist in Chicago Artists Month in 2005 and recipient of a CAAP Grant in 2006 and 2009, and a recipient of an individual arts grant from the City of Urbana, IL in 2010.
Mia has worked in a wide variety of materials including large-scale metal sculpture, bronze, glass, plaster, food, video and fabrics. Mia currently builds sculptures and installations out of hundreds of found, cast and fabricated parts using fabric, rubber, metal, plaster, foam and plastics. In addition, she has worked as a manager and arts administrator for several years for organizations including the San Francisco Art Institute, Lillstreet Art Center, Visual Aid and Kartemquin Films.
